The Portsmouth Cottage Hospital is a former hospital building on Junkins Avenue in Portsmouth, New Hampshire. The main building, built in 1895, is a long and narrow brick structure, three stories tall, which sits at the top of a knoll overlooking the South Mill Pond. This building, with several additions in the first half of the 20th century, served as the city's primary hospital facility until 1962, when new facilities were built next door. This campus was acquired by the city c. 1986, and the 1962 building was adapted for use as City Hall and police station.[2]
The 1895 building, along with a few smaller pre-1945 buildings on the campus, was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1996.[1] The original 1895 building has been converted into senior housing.
